What does it take to get someone fired? Not much, anymore, especially if you're a government contractor. Out the door if you so much as look cross-eyed at someone. However, if you're in a Govt Service position, those people are apparently immune to everything. It's easier to torch the entire department, scorched-earth style, than try to get somebody with a GS post fired. Contractors who have been around awhile generally fight like rabid wolves over these rare GS positions, when they are available (which seldom occurs). Backstabbings, political infighting, every little backbiting infraction is then brought up to the superiors. It might be amusing for the supervisors, but for the contractors, it's not a pretty sight to watch. A great big fat turd of a system.
If you really want to be an utter tool, basically don't do anything related to your job, just sit around in your cubicle all day, doing apparently nothing. You can't get fired if you don't actually do any real work. That strategy works like a charm for certain people at my place of employment. Usually these people have patsy lab techs they "train" on equipment they should have no business working with, so that when the entire operation blows up, they have convenient scapegoats ready to go (be fired). Its loads of fun working with these people, as you may imagine. Usually these patsies are contractors, too, as usually is the case. Just so happens to be that we're hiring our next batch of patsi-... um, new contractor lab techs, as the previous batch is being fired for mishandling broken dysfunctional equipment... Convenient, that. Sometimes they don't even hire the new people, they just sit on the current funding, and ask the people already there to do 3 times their current workload without extra support or pay. This seems to be the standard policy.
As you may guess, turnover at these places is higher than usual. It takes a certain type of brown-nosing sycophant to really excel in such situations. Can't wait to get out of such a place; your soul becomes infected with the poisonous atmosphere. Usually this leads to spewing this hatred online, which is generally unappreciated by the audience. But there's no one else to talk to about this stuff; if you talk at work you're just magnifying the existing problems. The immediate people you live with don't want to hear this trash either, they put up with enough already. So you post it in an obscure webcomic comment box, in the vain hope that someone will read it, your endless screaming in pain from the darkness.
oh, uh..what gets a person fired? I'd say...letting that list grow longer.
Though I'D listen to reason (if there is one) and let judgement pass from there.
other then that: Lazy workers (Unless they are resting from heavy lifting/lots of work)
People who ignore orders (Unless they found something that needs attention from the boss)
Breaking the work-places tools (UNLESS THEY BROUGHT A REPLACEMENT/THEIR OWN)
...I think I might be too soft with these, since I love listening to reasons, if there are any to give that is. If not, Get away from the job-site and let someone who can, do.
Corruption in the public service. Often enough, you are not fired, you just resign as the investigation digs deeper. This has happened to serveral Australian ministers in recent years, and one in the past week or so.
I think you could get fired for a number of reasons. Sleeping on the job, being late for your shift, etc. But there's also stuff you could get fired for, but it wasn't your fault. My dad used to work at the hospital about 15 minutes from my house. One time, he was covering for another doctor by treating his patients. But when that doctor came back, he found out my dad didn't follow procedure. But he says he didn't have to, since they were minor injuries, like an ingrown toenail, which were easily treatable. But he still got kicked out. After that, he was searching for shifts at hospitals, and the only one he knew that didn't make him work over the holidays was out in another state. That's where he's been working since. He was also kicked for his age,, since he was in his 60's.
The bunnies are just an adorable bunch of cuties. I love them. <3
Going to work beeing ill is a reason to get fired so DON'T freaking go to work when you are ill ,are you crazy!?

What does it take to get fired? Not doing your job. Not taking your job serious enough to follow safe steps. The list goes on and on but on a side note.
Goddess how I love Grandma Joy! Meant to say that sooner just kept forgetting.
